Born in 1946, Ron Jones served in the United States Marine Corps in Viet Nam where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Award and the Cross of Gallantry. He graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 1969. In 1976 he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography and painting from Florida State University in Tallahassee. He was the Supervisor of Photography at the Florida State Archives for many years, and in 1982 he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from FSU. He went on to receive a Juris Doctor degree from FSU in 1986 and practiced criminal defense law for several years. He is now retired and painting full time at his studio in Tallahassee.
