Born in 1946, Ron Jones served in the United States Marine Corps in Viet Nam where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart Award and the Cross of Gallantry. He graduated from the New York Institute of Photography in 1969.  In 1976 he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography and painting from Florida State University in Tallahassee under the direction of Robert Fichter and Jack Mims.  He was the Supervisor of Photography at the Florida State Archives for many years, and in 1982 he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from FSU under the direction of Trevor Bell.  His background includes direction from Steve Pressler, Ray Burggraf, Arthur Deshaies, Janice Hartwell, and Bill Walmsley.  These artists provided Ron  with the technological skill and sense of scale that have enabled him to think and create at the level he has achieved.  He went on to receive a Juris Doctor degree from FSU in 1986 and practiced criminal defense law for several years.  Ron, now retired, is teaching and painting full time at his studio in Tallahassee.
